Digital artist Shelley Bergen shows you one of her hallmark techniques called “Huge Eyes” to create a very interesting effect in the end.

I have been asked many times how I make the huge eyes in some of my images. This simple technique was taught to me by noir. It’s really quite simple to do – but you do need a filter callet KPT3.

This is the original image.

When in KPT3 you can move the vortex around on the KPT screen with your mouse.

Open the image in KPT3 vortex tiling.

Mode: pinch
Glue: normal
Opacity: 100%
Radius: 13%

The radius is up to you. 13% worked nicely on this eye image.Once you like how it looks hit the green OK button.

I usually do a light burning around the iris and pupil for depth.

Now use your airbrush to fill inthe black pupil. And there you have it. Manipulate the image with texture etc. and enjoy!

About the author:
I was born and raised in central Canada in 1962, and I live there still with my husband and our teenage son. Art has always played a part in my life, for the last 7 years or so I have focused on digital art, tapestry and painting in acrylics. I am co-owner of Groundfrost Illustration and Design which began in October 2004. Some of our clients include the Black Eyed Peas, God Forbid and The Killers. My digital art tools are Paintshop Pro 9, Poser 5, a Kodak Easy Share camera and a Wacom tablet. Poser 5 and my digital camera are still new tools to me, I’m learning as I go. I can’t imagine my life without art in it, its a part of me.
