Surreal art
The radical aim of Surrealism is to revolutionize human experience, including its personal, cultural, social, and political aspects, by freeing people from what is seen as false rationality, and restrictive customs and structures.
Surreal art has been defined as a cultural and intellectual movement oriented toward the liberation of the mind by emphasizing the critical and imaginative faculties of the “unconscious mind”. The “sur-real”, or “more than real” state can be something we see, feel and experience, yet is difficult to comprehend.
Freudian followers assert that unconscious thoughts are those of which we are not aware and actually motivate human behavior. Many surrealists believe the wellspring of imagination and creativity can be accredited to dream interpretation.
For Domen Lombergar this orientation toward transcending everyday reality toward one that incorporates imagination and the unconscious is most evident in this particular artwork collection. His interpretation of dreams for example is effectively demonstrated in his work, Dreams, which like an actual dream has all the imaginary elements necessary for reality yet is completely illogical.
His work, Thinking Egg Broken, obviously relates to the thought process and is aptly represented by that of an egg-head. Here, the logic is easy to understand but the concept is difficult to accept. Such is surrealism.
