Fantasy art is usually described as depictions of ancient myths and legends, as well as representations of modern day fantasy in the form of divine interventions and other magical or supernatural forces. Dragons, wizards, fairies and other fantasical and mythical creatures are common features of fantasy art. Fantasy artworks are often intended to represent specific characters or scenes from works of fantasy literature. The adventures of super-human heroes and the inevitable battles between good and evil quite often spill out of the comic book and onto the canvas. However, the contemporary works of Domen Lombergar are not really inspired by the typical aspects of science fiction. He has only to delve into his unlimited imagination to find a concept, which he can cultivate and eventually set free upon his own personal canvas. In his classic work, Beneath The Stain Of Time, Domen Lombergar may be suggesting an evolutionary look at life through the application of illusion. Whereas in The Machine, we can quite easily see the association between machines and humans through demonstration. Both works are products of the artist’s own concious mind uninfluenced by mainstream fiction, on which other fantasy artists seem to rely.
